Growing with our People: Sharleen's Story

Sharleen Feng joined Pier Solutions in April of 2017. We thought we were hiring an administrative assistant. Little did we know that over the next four years Sharleen’s contributions would grow to include site work (everything from swinging a hammer to operating heavy equipment), financial planning, data analytics, human resources, and strategic planning.
To what do we attribute Sharleen's success? Her dedication, willingness to try new things, numerical brilliance, and ability to research analytic strategies and produce critical insights.
Sharleen grew up in Dongguan, China, with a front row seat in her parent’s small business. Sharleen attained a business degree in China before coming to Winnipeg and getting an International Business diploma at Red River College.
When Pier Solutions was awarded the replacement of Winnipeg’s King’s Park pedestrian bridges, our small business reached a level where we needed a dedicated admin assistant to sort through our books and other financial/project data.
Enter Sharleen. We didn’t have plans for Sharleen, outside of her administrative assistant role. But Sharleen brought to life our hiring philosophy that continues to this day: hire people with skills, initiative, and potential, and empower them to grow and take on responsibilities... fast!
In a small entrepreneurial business, there is no shortage of responsibilities and there isn’t financial buffer for anyone to get bored — everyone must contribute to their full creative/hard working potential for the team to succeed.
Sharleen is now on the core management team as our business manager and team co-manager, combining her unique analytical and interpersonal skills. Her site and office experience, as well as her fun personality, allows Sharleen to build strong relationships with the entire team at Pier Solutions and offer exceptional direction to the management team.
Thank you and congratulations, Sharleen, on your four years with Pier Solutions!
